This amazing little 1849 built cottage by the river in Georgetown, Ontario, was completely renovated and restructured! Three rooms were made into one magnificent open concept great room with a coffered ceiling and custom-built fireplace surround! A custom-built breakfast nook, laundry, and mudroom were added. The kitchen, dining room, and hall were all redone as well. 3 bathrooms were remodeled with a complete re-work of the main floor bath, including a curb-less shower. A new front door was added, and the existing 1849 French doors were repurposed for the closet!

The Start:

The first stage of this project involved demolition including the removal of several tons of lathe and plaster !

Temporary supports were set up and new footings poured to carry the load of the 1st and second stories with a new 4 ply LVL.

we did some additional framing for a new bedroom, a kitchen wall to hang cabinets and extending the main floor bathroom.

we next got to work on the bathrooms, Laundry center, rerouted and added some additional cold air returns and heat ducts to better balance the comfort level of the old gem !

The Original floor was in tough shape but we decided to save it and refinish it ! the original bean and joists were lifted about 4 inches and twisted, so we had to remove a large section, hand plane and reset the beam, level each floor joist and source vintage lumber to mill on site to match the original boards ! This was a ton of work but the result was an amazing vintage floor !

More on this project coming soon…..
